First;What does dictionary mean ?
A dictionary, (a lexicon, wordbook, or vocabulary,) is
a collection of words in one or more specific languages, often listed alphabetically, with usage information, definitions, etymologies, phonetics, pronunciations, and other information;
or a book of words in one language with their equivalents in another, also known as a lexicon.

Brief history about Dictionaries :

The first recorded form of dictionary much to the surprise of many is dated back to the 7th century BC. It is interesting to note that the concept of dictionary was conceived in 7th century BC. This first dictionary belongs to the library of the Ashurbanipal, the king of Assyria, Nineveh.. Followed by this in terms of chronology was the Latin dictionary by Verrius Flaccus.
The evidence of next available dictionary takes a leap to 5th century AD and later. These dictionaries take a big leap not only in terms of chronology but, it also takes big leap in terms of Geographical location. The 5th AD century dictionaries are Sanskrit dictionaries. These are polyglot dictionaries in Sanskrit, Tibetan, Mongolian and Chinese. During this time were also found dictionaries in botany, astronomy and medicine in Sanskrit. Following these, were dictionaries in Hebrew between 6th to 8th centuries AD.
How about the sophisticated Greeks and Romans? Did their sophisticated minds not conceive anything on collection and listing of the words of their language? The Greeks had something similar to glossaries of unusual words and phrases rather than a comprehensive and exhaustive collection of words of their la --- يتبع

What does Resume mean ?

A résumé is a document that contains a summary of relevant job experience and education for specific employment search.

What is a Curriculum Vitae ?

A long, multi-page resume is called a curriculum vita (CV). It is Latin for "course of one"s life."

What is the difference between a curriculum vitae (CV) and a resume?

The primary differences between a resume and a curriculum vitae (CV) are the length, what is included and what each is used for. A resume is a one or two page summary of your skills, experience and education. While a resume is brief and concise - no more than a page or two, a Curriculum Vitae is a longer (at least two page) and more detailed synopsis.
A Curriculum Vitae includes a summary of your educational and academic backgrounds as well as teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honors, affiliations and other details. you should use a CV in professional industries such as "medicine, law, education, science, and media (television, film, etc).

The Perfect CV

CV writing is a controversial subject - part art, part science. If you ask any two people their idea of the perfect CV, you are likely to get two different and rather subjective responses.
Your CV should not only summaries your qualifications, skills and experience but --- يتبع

A Guide For Parents In Teaching their Kids the English Language

Salam Alekom everyone.

It’s true that you and your child can achieve more if you work together to learn English. It not only gives you and your child some time to bond together but it also helps your child learn faster and more efficiently.
In this day and age, getting ahead can be a rather tough thing to achieve. Our children are born into a day and age where ordinary just isn't good enough anymore. Our children need as much of an edge over their peers as they can.
And when the time comes that they have to set out into the world and get on with their careers, knowing a second or third language might just be that 'edge' that they need.
How to learn English for kids is relatively easy.

1.	Use the English Language in Your Daily Conversations

Nothing beats this method in teaching your kid the English language.

2.	Incorporate the English Language into Your Games

When you play with your kid, make sure that the games that you’re playing are educational and useful. Don’t waste your time with mindless games that teach the kid nothing.

3.	Include the Child in Your TV Time

Television is not always bad for your children. Media is actually a great source of learning and information for your child, especially in the use of the English grammar for kids.

4.	Start Early

You've probably heard that kid's brains are like sponges when it comes to learning new things, including new languages like English for kids. This is because kids are practically wired to learn. During these carefree years, the brain is --- يتبع

Alsalam alikom

Hi everyone , I studied last year an interesting topic in one of linguistics courses . It has fun and true aspects at the same time . I would like to share it with you today.
So enjoy reading ..

Women's Language

o	Second : ten elements of the language that women use

o	Third : Do Men and Women Speak the Same Language?

___________________________________________________________________

First : Robin Lakoff

She is a professor of linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley. Lakoff's writings have become the basis for much research on the subject of women's language. In a 1975 article, she published ten basic assumptions about what she felt constituted a special women's language. Lakoff's most famous work, Language and Woman's Place, introduced to the field of sociolinguistics many ideas about women's language that are now commonplace. She proposed (Language and Woman's Place) that women's speech can be distinguished from that of men in a number of ways.

Second : ten elements of the language that women use

These are ten elements of the language that women use, as identified by Robin Lakoff in 1975. Of course, not all women use all of this language all of the time, and some may question the whole.
The following ten features have been identified as "Women's Language" (based on: Lakoff 1975):
1. Hedges, e.g. sort of; kind of, I guess.
2. (Super) polite forms e.g. would you please...I'd really appreciate it if:.. "Would you mind…" "Is it o.k. if…?" "…if it’s not too m --- يتبع

Alsalam alikom
This article is a little bit different . You will read about " Body Language" that every one used , yet many people do not know about it . Let me take you on a journey (I hope you enjoy ).

First, what is Body Language? Body language is the unspoken or non-verbal mode of communication that we do in every single aspect of our interaction with another person. Actually, it is like a mirror that tells us what the other person thinks and feels in response to our words or actions.

Would you believe that in real life situations, 60% to 80% of the messages that we convey to other people are transmitted through body language and the actual verbal communication accounts for only 7% to 10%?

Second, we use body language everyday in our lives to get our message across, to achieve positive feedback in our lives, and to get whatever we want. We use this language all the time, but we may not be aware of it.

Third , I try to look for Hadeeth Sharif that proves the using of body language by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH, I found the following Ahadeeth * :

When speakers imitate a word form a foreign language and at least partly adapt in sound or grammar to their native speech ways, the process is known as borrowing, and the word thus borrowed is a loanword. Moreover, the history of a loanword may be quite complex because such words have often passed through a series of languages before reaching English. In addition, English language barrowed thousands of words from many languages such as; Arabic, Latin, Greek, French and Italian. According to one survey, the percentage of modern English words derived from each language group are as follows:
(including words used only in scientific / medical / legal contexts):

Latin ~29%
French: ~29%
Germanic: ~26%
Others: ~16%

Besides, There are numerous Arabic loanwords in English, i.e., words of English acquired directly from Arabic or indirectly, by passing from Arabic into a third language (often Spanish) and then into English.
Here in the following list there are some Arabic loanwords in English:

Admiral
أميرال بحار, amīr al-bihār commander of the seas.

Alchemy
الكيمياء alkīmiyā, from Greek khēmia, khēmeia, art of transmuting metals

Alcohol

The modern mathematical sense comes from the title of the book al-kitāb al-mukhtaṣar fī ḥisāb al-jabr wa-l-muqābala, "The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing" by the 9th-century mathematician Abu Ja"far Muḥammad ibn Mūsa al-Khwārizmī.

Using Technology in Teaching

( CALL Activities )

Alsalam alikom
To all English teachers,
I am very much delighted to write this piece of writing to you and I hope you get benefit from it. This article will focus on a very interesting technique for English learners. It will contain: First, a short introduction to define (CALL). Second, a short paragraph to discuss CALL advantages, and third, 3 examples of CALL activities

First, what does (CALL) mean? Computer-assisted language learning (CALL) is a form of computer-based learning which carries two important features; bidirectional learning and individualized learning. It is not a method. CALL materials are tools for learning. Above all, the focus of CALL is learning, and not teaching. CALL materials are used in teaching to facilitate the language learning process. Furthermore, it is a student-centered accelerated learning material which promotes self-paced accelerated learning.

Second, there are 4 main advantages of CALL; motivation, adapting learning to the student, authenticity, and critical thinking skills. Generally speaking, the use of technology inside or outside the classroom tends to make the class more interesting. Besides, adapting learning to the student .Computers can give a new role to teaching materials. In addition, adapting to the student usually means that the student controls the pace of the learning, but it also means that students can make choices in what and how to learn by skipping unnecessary items or doing remedial work on difficult concepts. Furthermore, Authenticity” in language learni --- يتبع
